I love these folks… Always have. Doreen went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2008. The word “missed” is not enough for what we feel. We met them at church. This was a time when Mike and I were right in the middle of generations. I mean, that our kids were 11-12, or so. So we didn’t fit in with the couples with babies, already did that. We had some older saints that just loved us and wanted us to be with them. So we were. I can remember Friday nights and we would go the their house or another and we learned the domino game “Mexican Train”. We had snacks and would laugh and play until late. There are lots of great memories of that time. I could not (and still don’t) grow things very well. Doreen would take my African Violets and make then better and give them back.
They were married as long as I have been alive and I’m 57. What a testimony. The loved, traveled and laughed all the time. They not only loved each other but they loved our church family. They had to move to Southern CA be closer to their son in the latter years, but when Doreen started to fade, Phil was in Africa. They waited for him to come back to do the service at the church where they knew they were loved.
In thinking about the past and these sweet folks…I realize how blessed we have been to have older saints who love the Lord surrounding us. We learn about love, marriage, children and loving the Lord from them. We learn how to take from them their knowledge and use it. And then sadly, we learn how to say Goodbye, only to remember its only for a short while. Heaven is just a little dearer to Mike and I today.
I love to play Mexican Train Dominoes! My family is obsessed…good times good times.
Sounds like they have a great testimony. I love surrounding myself with people like that. You were blessed to hve them a part of your life.
Thanks for sharing.
I recently learned how to play Mexican Train Dominoes too. Had never heard about it before, but am really enjoying it.
That was a beautiful testimony to your friend.
why does it have to be mexican? hahaha (its joey) love you! she’s in a place where we all want to be!!!!
That really is a great testimony to the Lord! I’m hoping that I can get to know some of the older saints among my congregation.
